I am a nomad. My feet have met the concrete, the soil and the marble tiles. My eyes have seen the country side and the urban jungle. I have inhaled the air of the South and the smoke of the North. Time and time again, I have been uprooted from the shelters I have known. But don't get me wrong. I may not have a house but I have always had a home.
I grew up in a place that is miles away, both in terms of location and progress. I was raised in a wooden house with a leaky roof, a marble-tiled bungalow, a spacious house with a large garden and a two-story apartment near a Church. Like I said, we moved a lot. Growing up, it all seemed like a big adventure to me. I even pretended that we were the Wild Thornberries. But then, I grew older and I grew tired. I grew weary of packing my life in a box and throwing memories away. I grew tired of the moving vans and packaging tape. But most of all, I did not want any more goodbyes.
So why did I end up here? I did I leave the only place I knew and loved for a strange land I have yet to discover? Why did I pack my life into a suitcase and say the greatest goodbye of all? The answer, I realised, is far simpler than I thought. It's because I had to, because it's for the best and because I wanted to. The old place was good to me. It raised me and nurtured me. It gave me dreams and it gave me wings. But it could only give me so much. It was time for me to take the next step, to take flight on my own. I know now that I am a travelling soul. My life is not, cannot and will not be defined by a four-walled house. My life will be defined by my journey, the story I live out everyday.
I no longer look for a home because I know exactly where it is. It is anywhere, everywhere and nowhere. Home is where there is laughter and tears. Home is where my parents share their love. Home is where my siblings tease each other and do not clean. Home is where new opportunities wait to be explored. Home is where joy and love reside. Home is where there are pain and strife. Home is where there are sufferings and strength. Home is where I find salvation and hope. Home is where heroes are born and greatness is achieved. Home is where the stories and made. My home is the world. Who cold have asked for a better one?
